When i give Daisy a chew or a treat more often than not she does not eat it she carries it around and then hides it in a corner of a room, then a week later she gets it out and plays with it, throws it around rolls on it etc then puts it back in the hidey place then a week or 2 later she eats it!! Her favourite at the moment is a pigs ear, she has just got it from a hidey place and is playing with it!! I found a shortcake biscuit in the spareroom the other day...

Strange eh?? Does anyone elses dogs do this??

my jrt also does this and its always hunt the bone that I get from the butchers shop before it starts smelling the house out.

My JR does too. She loves burying things and digging them up after a few days. She also tries to bury things in the house (this usually involves attempting to destroy some sort of soft furnishing) and then pushes imaginary soil over her chewy with her snout. Highly amusing to watch....

We have three phases with Bumble Dog and chews

Phase one - very proud of chew, carries it around shows it to everyone.

Phase two - she has to bury the chew so bags are dug out, not good enough, sofa pillows upended, not good enough, laundry basket utilised and IF she can get into the garden it is buried, but then dug up and one filthy JRT and one even dirtier chew are then brought back in!! Hence we try and keep her from going into the garden.

Phase three - basically Bumble becomes possessed and sits with the chew in front of her and if you so much as walk into the room or look at her she growls and boy for a little dog is she noisey!! At this point chew is removed by devious means!!!

Stage 1: ignore the chew completely and look disdainfully if it is thrown to play with
Stage 2: cuddle it in sleep, carry it everywhere but refuse to actually chew it
Stage 3: hold in mouth constantly, lick and cover in slobber, then try to present it to me
stage 4: after nearly a week of ownership...chew!
we are on our second chew following this cycle...and currently on the cuddling stage. i think its his imaginary friens as he will go through phases of sitting watching it and batting it with his paw and kind of crying at it!! weird dog!!

Seems like it!

I feel awful for not letting him have Pig Ears as he adores them, but they turn what comes out the other end into brown water! Cost us £60 in Vet's Bill last time!

Otto's stages with chews go like this,

Stage 1: Devour chew within roughly 5 minutes

Stage 2: Plead for another chew
Stage 3: Give up and lick your paws to try and re-create the taste from the Chew.
Stage 4: Go to sleep

I find whole chews behind sofa, in my bed, in my cat litter tray, in his bed, anywhere that is out of sight but i get OUCH whats the hell is that...

Bones.. i watch him like hawk but he never buries it only outside so my sofa's safe.

He got those rawhide bones for his birthday last september, he carries it all the time but never eat it.

Zak carries them round excitedly and tries to bury them in bean bags!!! Its great though when we get the ones to freshen his breath!!! They work even better when they have been carried around for a couple of hours!!
