recently bought new horse which has come with full wardrobe. his saddle which is virtually new is very high backed . thought at first it was a jumping saddle , but its not.I tried him with this saddle and made a right idiot of myself , getting my leg stuck on back of saddle when Idismounted.bare in mind I AM A MATURE RIDER WITH BACK PROBLEMS.now i have a dilemma do I persevere with this particular saddle, try dismounting leaving nearside foot in stirrup, I know thats not the right way and could be quite dangerous if horse decided to go.Iam worried about haveing to dismount quickly in a crisis , " do tack shops do swaps or px saddles?or do Ihave another go and see how I get on.

I would change it. My saddler will take your saddle and sell it on your behalf and take a small percentage. Some saddlers will take them as part-ex.
It's no good having a saddle which you're not comfortable with. It has to fit both you and the horse.

Some saddle fitters (me included) will take most saddles on sale or return, and may pay cash up-front as a trade in. Some won't at all. YOu may get more from selling it privately if you can front the cost of a new saddle first, or go without a saddle for a short period.

I would say that a lower cantle might be safer if you're having this issue. If your horses is very reliable you can bring your right leg over the front of the saddle, but I'd not recommend it, it is obviously risky as well.
