High Blower..Fitness Eventing

As long as you mean that it trrrrrrrrrrrs on the OUT breath only, I have always found them to be the easiest horses to keep fit as it seems to go hand in hand with forward going horses. No need for extra fitness at all, it does not interrupt the air supply to the lungs. Lots of racehorses do it. I love the noise, I have an IDx, my hunter, who does it now.

I was told by a vet once that high blowers often had better wind and easier to get fit than the average horse as long as they are just a high blower and have no other wind problems obviously.... I have had two and both were definitely easy to get fit for eventing and also the noise helps you keep in a good rthythm on the cross country!

Yes he is foward going, lively, exuberant and in fact a fab horse but being a big fella he usually takes quite a bit of getting fit.....i just wondered as he is a high blower if anybody had experience of this as regards fitness....obviously not

[/ QUOTE ]I agree, and the other advantage of a loud hiblower is that it scares the bejaysus out of any horse in your way

Practically as good as a fire engine siren.

They can possibly be slightly more inclined to nosebleeds purely from the membranes inside the nose getting damaged from the vibrations, but this isn't anything to worry about and doesn't happen all of them. I have had high blowers in the past and one of my current horses is one and they are great. I quite like the noise!
