High profile foal auction with spelling mistake...!

Ok so if you're reading this and you're in a serious/annoyed/angry mood I suggest you don't read on... I know it's petty but I keep seeing this everywhere and it's starting to really annoy me!

There is currently a high profile foal auction taking place, and on the blurb they have used the word "confirmation". I know, I know... Not the end of the world, and people still understand what they mean. However, this is a high profile, and high value horse auction and I just feel it's not very professional to spell a 'horsey' word like this wrong, where such a large audience may view it.

I'm sure it's just a simple mistake or overview, no doubt it was a website specialist that wrote the piece and not the owner/riders, but I just wanted to have a rant - and now feel much better for it! :)
 
Yes, that sort of thing really bugs me too... don't they get anyone to proof read it before it goes to print?!

I also find myself getting really annoyed with people who set up small businesses through facebook and don't check their spelling and grammar before making a post to promote said business (some very simple things like using 'too' instead of 'to')... just not very professional if you ask me.
 
I have just embarked on a proofreading course, mainly because I need to channel my annoyance at poor grammar/spelling/punctuation towards something productive.

OP, confirmation is one of my pet hates. You have now set me up for a day of being picky and annoyed!
 
Quick! Pass me some gas and air!!!!!

It's just the sort of thing that would send me off!
 
This kind of thing drives me bonkers too! I get given all the marketing stuff at work to proof read cos I'm 'anal'apparently. Sarahthomas, I didn't know you could do proof reading courses could you perhaps post a link?

Kind Regards is my rage switch mistake, since when was regards a proper noun?

I don't know about the correctness of it but "kind regards" irritates me because it's just so...benign! At least "best wishes" is sort of cheery and implies you are sending positive thoughts in some way. "Kind regards" just seems to mean "I wish you no harm, but no happiness either". Ugh.

Does the menage/manege thing also wind y'all up? ;)
 
I don't mind Kind regards, as I think of it as meaning I am sending you my kind regards, but it's the 'should of, could of, would of' misuse that drives me nuts.

Should HAVE, could HAVE, would HAVE for crying out loud :)

Finally someone who agrees with me on the Kind Regards thing - so many people at work end their emails like this and I find it really annoying.

I am also the proof-reader at work...

See the confirmation thing ALL the time. My vet had Spey instead of Spay on their board for years:eek:
 
SillySausage, I would email them in a fun way to point out their little error. I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Sometimes people deliberately make spelling mistakes on bill boards etc, to encourage people to come into their shop to point out the error, in the hopes they might buy whilst there!
 
i dont no y u r geting so wound up. its not to much of a big thing. there probs 2 busy to chek things lik spelling.


Aaaarrrggghhh - now I am going to have a bad day (walks off muttering confirmation :eek:) :rolleyes::D
 
As well as the conformation/confirmation matter it's the "their, they're, there" issue that particularly bugs me, closely followed by "could of, should of, would of etc". As far as manege/menage - aaagh.

Brought and bought misuse is like some bloody disease in these parts. A woman at my yard does it all the time and I'm too new to scream at her yet!

No, you MUST. I implore you to correct her, for her sake.

Our local pub was bought by the last owners in a state of disrepair. We attended a hunt meet there after it had been renovated and in the entrance there was a photo of them stood in front of the derelict building, with the caption 'Garth Mill when we brought it in 2004'. I went to the bar and proceeded to ask them 'so where did you bring this place from?'...it went straight over the top of their heads :confused:
 
Now I'm getting annoyed thinking about apostrophes. My local butcher had a board outside advertising "free range turkeys' and chickens' for sale" at Christmas. Nobody could understand why I was ranting about it. But, after reading this thread, I am so glad to know that it's not just me who gets annoyed. :)
 
Misuse of "literally" and "ironic" make me scream.

I have a screen saver that states

5. Your= Shows ****ing possession
6. It's= It ****ing is
7. Its= Shows ****ing possession
8. We're= We ****ing are
9. Were= Past ****ing tense of "are"
10. Where= Specifies a ****ing location
11. Loose= Not ****ing fixed in place
12. Lose= Cease to ****ing keep
13. Affect= A ****ing action
14. Effect= A ****ing result
15. Could've= Could ****ing have
16. Could of= You're (see 4) a ****ing retard!!!

Aarghhh well you can't, someone else did that years ago. You could however breed FROM your mare!!!
 
I get really twitchy about affect/effect as well.
Not to mention bridle/bridal. Whenever I see "bridal path" I imagine a neat gravel path to a pretty church decorated with white ribbons, floral displays & confetti - not what is meant at all.
