I'm just reading the Luhmuhlen report in H&H and there is a bit in the 'Course Chat' about Julia Crowson having to retire due to her 'high tech stirrup-iron' snapping on the XC phase. Does anyone know what make of iron this was? I have had my sprenger's for years with no problems but it does make me wonder (and worry!!!)

She could have put her foot in the leather that is what I would do, drop the leather a couple of holes and put your foot in the leather

Ive just ordered some William Funnel stirrups, copies of the Sprengers hopefully they wont break!

Lets hope not eh??!!!
Hadn't thought of the 'using your leather' instead scenario!! I'll remember that!

I would have retired as well, my stirrup snapped with me a little while back and it was still attached to the leather as it was the side bit that went. By the time you had altered your stirrup and then having a lump of metal flapping against your horses side with the time faults and distractions it wouldn't be worth it.

Very true! Also think I'd be in orbit if my boy had a lump of metal banging against his side (bit of a sensitive chap!!!)

I had part of my Harvey Smith safety stirrup snap off out hunting this winter - bit of a surprise at the time - luckily just just meant the safety catch was a lot looser than when I started (but to be fair the catches are so tight that you could lose fingers in them if they snapped shut - makes tack cleaning a rather scary experience!!) Keep meaning to investigate buying some more... but a little worried the same thing could happen!!
