My horse has just been counted for worms and come back high. He's been wormed throughout the year as normal but has just not gained the weight he needs (long story been out I filed 3 yr never wormed ect filed never poo picked) anyway he's been given panaure equine guard just one full syringe three days ago. I'm yet to see anything being parted with. Do I worry or just keep checking. Have to re count in a week.
 
I had an issue awhile ago with a youngster and his WEC came back high with a high count for red worm so we were advised 5 day panacur then retest two weeks later. Retest showed a huge difference but still a medium high count then we double dosed pyratape P and WEC counts have been <50 e.p.g. every since.

Didn't see anything in poos tbh.
 
Mine came back sky high when he came back from loan, I think it was just over 1800! He was kept in isolation, had 5 day panacur guard, then a separate tape wormer, worm counted again and it had come right down, so he had another wormer and another worm count and he was clear. Hes worm counted clear every time since :)
 
Why have you only given one day of the Panacur Guard? It's meant to be given on five consecutive days.
 
why not worm him properly with panacur guard over 5 days so it is effective and then do a resistance test after another couple of weeks. You also need to establish if you have resistance to PG, quite a few have.
 
As above, use the Panacur guard as recommended, at correct dose for weight for five days, then do a resistance test to see if it was effective. If you don't treat as recommended you'll only contribute to creating a resistant worm population.
Whether or not you see worms in the manure is completely immaterial, IMO. My old mare had a count of 3500epg when I got her. With treatment, we got the worm burden under control, but I never noticed worms in her manure.
 
It sounded like the OP gave a panacur syringe, not the 5 day guard? OP what did whoever did the count suggest?
I would agree you need to give the 5 day guard and then recount in a week, not a single dose.
 
OP -you need to get more advice from a qualified person, amongst other things the active ingredient in Panacur is one with a lot of observed resistance nowdays so may not be the best product in your situation.
