I had bloods taken last week from my horse as he suddenly developed a very high temperature and was not eating . Vet gave him a shot of antiinflammatory which seemed to affect him immediately and he started eating again although by next morning was off his feed although temp had gone down . Bloods showed a slight inflammatory marker but also higher than expected glucose levels . Vet is suggesting possible cushings /ems/perentonitis. Whilst I can see where she's going the horse doesnt appear to have any of the symptoms of these . After 4 days he was eating & grazing normally so appears to be over the incident . Also very strange is the same thing happened exactly at the same time of year last year . I'm unsure of how to go forward with it I've lost all faith in vets over the last few years .

How old is he ? Certainly wouldnt do any harm to test for cushings especially if older horse but if not happy with current vets maybe get second opinion xx

From a human perspective it's common for blood glucose levels to rise with infections or other illnesses. Personally I'd repeat the test before panicking.

If it happened last year then is there anything environmental that might trigger the temperature?

That's interesting

There isn't anything I'm aware of . I've decided to get bloods done again in a month's time and see what they look like. In the meantime a week later I've hacked him and he's full of himself so it's a right mystery.
