No highland crosses, but I do have two cross highlands having dragged them off the long grass for the night :p :D

Have pictures of a highland x dorset longhorn but don't think that's what you're looking for Oberon :confused: :D
 
Where's the watcher? We need pictures of her beautiful highland/Tobago crosses,they are simply stunning.

I just have a ordinary highland so no help at all.
 
I really wanted to see what a Highland x TB looked like....so thanks for that.

I'd love to see The Watcher's cross too.

That cross can vary dramatically, from what looks like 16hh pure highlands to real sports horses. There's a 3 year old for sale on the HPS website which looks quite nice (has videos) and a 5 year old in Cumbria that I know of :) if you are looking.

Not looking really, just musing.

A 16hh Highland would be exactly what I'd like ;)
 
Used to loan a Highland X Anglo Arab. She'd done very well showing in the past, workers etc.

Sadly no longer with us.

I find something very regal about Highlands but at 5' 9" I'm not a candidate for a pure bred :(

I love Arabs too - sometimes I wish I was shorter :D

Silly question but have you ridden many pure bred highlands? They really do take up more height/leg than I ever realised :eek: I have pictures somewhere of me on a 13.2hh and she looks massive! There are occasionally overheight highlands for sale (and they aren't usually expensive as you can't show them in proper breed shows)

I think JFTD's only an inch or so shorter than you :)

That's interesting.

I've never had the honour of riding a pure Highland.

My Arab is 14.3hh (I got him when I was 14 and shorter:D) but he rides much bigger and I feel happy on him (when I'm at an appropriate weight to ride him :o)
Maybe one day I could have a 'proper' Highland then :p
 
Shame you're up north, Oberon, you'd be welcome to come and ride my ratbag... He's 14,1ish, I'm 5'8 and relatively long of leg and I think, tall though I definitely am on him, we get away with it! Even at dressage length I think we're within the realms of sanity :p

My old girl was 5/8 arab, 1/8 tb & 1/4 highland (grand dam registered as Altnaharra). Fab girl, dark bay roan, backside would go white in summer, looked like she had a white blanket on. Most genuine lady I have ever met & I owe so much to her. Will try to scan in photo. Lost her aged 29.
 
Iv got a 50% highland and 50% heavy cob. He's dun and ment to make 14.1hh. He's 2 yrs old now and he is my babe. I would love a pure highland. Can't post pic though on my phone
 
Highland Arabian crosses are fabulous, a combination of two of my favourite breeds, but you can't always tell what you are going to get. Even with a 50/50 you can get a true mix or more Highland, or more Arabian.

Years ago I worked at a Country Park where they bred Cleveland Bays on Highlands, every single horse bred ended up as a tall Highland, most made over 15h, I don't recall a single bay amongst them. Great animals, placid weight carriers, they did the job they were bred for.
 
A lady that I used to know years ago bred some interesting crosses including a Suffolk x TB. She told me that when you cross two very different breeds - you still need to match/assess the conformation of the sire and dam. She also always had the lighter built horse as the Dam, so in the above case the dam was the TB and the sire was the Suffolk. She claimed that this gave a more consistant result (for example, no Suffolk bodies on TB legs :p ).
