Highland pony update - he's arrived

Unusual spelling of the name though? Iv'e never seen it without the A as in Murray or like the area Moray.
Good luck with him, you will have a blast x

i thought this too - most highlands i know have very traditional scottish names.

he is totally gorgeous! Bet he looks cracking under saddle, I do have a soft spot for a nice HiPo:D

He's gorgeous.

Mark Todd rugs are great for chunky beasts (and good quality too).

I'd consider under-rugging a bit this winter if I were you, just to keep his weight under control :)

Yes, Im planning a lw rain sheet more than anything. The plan is to winter him out but I would like to try and keep him a bit cleaner and drier if poss to make tacking up easier! His paddock has some natural shelter but if he's anything like my TB he will be permanently muddy..

As a fellow Highland owner I would definitely second Mark Todd and Masta rugs. I've also got a JHL that fits my mare and Shires Stormbreakers fit ok too.

Your boy is lovely but I agree that he is on the hefty side. I had a gelding (now sadly sold) who was a real porker and it was really hard to persuade him that eating wasn't the only thing he could do really well :D My mare is one of those rare non porky HiPos and I'm really grateful for that except it does mean higher feed bills :p

Good luck with your new pony and please post plenty of updates, preferably with photos!!

He's gorgeous! :D I am another that uses masta rugs on their Highalnd. I am a recent convert, I always thought I would stick to Irish cobs until I met a Highland at my local RDA centre, now I am batting my eyelashes at hubs to let me have a matching pair!
