Hey everyone, I'm looking at a Highland X and wondering what classes I could do with her (if I even decided to show!)? Would she be ruled out of M&M classes as she's not registered? She's clearly a native so I assume she'd be left natural despite being a cross? Jeez, I sound like a total idiot...forgive my obvious lack of showing knowledge!!

At local unaffiliated level, if she looks "native" you may get away with an M&M class. Obviously any class that requires a registered native you wont be able to do. At some shows you do get part-bred classes which she may be eligible for but my understanding is then you would be expected to trim, pull and plait not present as a "native".

Obviously at local unaffiliated level you would be able to do all of the usual best ridden, equitation, riding club type, best turned out and for those i think you could turn out as "native".

It's probably an idea to look at what's available locally, one of the local shows near us runs working hunter classes which are open to any type; they just run a 55cm, 65cm, 75cm etc fence heights and anyone can enter native, coloured, hunter type etc.

As long as you are not buying her only to show you should be able to find fun stuff with her to do at local level but there is a good chance she wont fit into any particular "box" if you wanted to go any higher.

Thank you Walrus, that's exactly what I was looking for. I went to see her today and bought her! She's amazing and with the potential to be a fab all rounder. If I do show in the future it will only be local shows, she's definitely 'native enough' to be left natural...thank god because I'm horrendous at plaiting up!!
