Asking on behalf of a friend, would anyone knowledgeable with Highlands at all, be able to look over some pedigrees at all for me please? Friend has a young mare she's not sure what to do with and sending me over her details...so just wondered when I know her lines, whether I could forward them on to someone and get their opinions on them :)

Give me cobs any day.....Highlands, not so much lol! I tried looking on horsemart to compare to, and there was a grand total of one to look at lol so I gave up there!

I'm not pedigree expert, but I do know highlands. I love my cob, but I'd rather have highlands that cobs (other than my old lad who is special) anyday.

The only highland I've seen on horsemart recently is not a highland by any standards I'm familiar with - it's over height and doesn't remotely resemble a highland (and I've seen it in the flesh). lovely mare, but I was amazed to see her advertised as a highland. So no, that wouldn't be as informative.

you could try contacting the HPS with questions. If your friends pony has a prefix or suffix ie something of Hunthall or Balmoral Something, it often lets you know which stud bred the pony, and you can approach the breeder.

By the way, Highlands are great all round ponies, easy to get on for all us stiff and creeky old bats

Fab! Lol. I'm fine with cob advice, I'll deal with that happily any day....can just about ok on Welshies and New Forests....but never had any dealings with Highlands myself yet I'm afraid, other than thinking they do look lovely though!

If I get some photos and info, would it be ok to PM you them and just get some feedback possibly? I think she's very nice...but I'm not clued up on them at all, so don't know if she'd be suited for showing classes.

To be honest, conformation and way of going will be more important in the ring than the breeding, presuming she is registered. You're more than welcome to pm me, but as I say, I can't guarentee a useful response if it's not lines I know. I'd love to see photos / videos and could comment on showing suitability from those if she wants to share them?

froglet's right - they're great all rounders - literal all rounders (mine is not even 6 yet and has done all the normal disciplines, TREC, horseball and more besides :o ) but not just for the creaky limbed :p

The watcher - what sort of PBs do you breed?

I'm not too up on breeding but pm me them and I will see what I can find out. If she is pure bred there should be no problems showing with the HPS I believe they also have classes for part breds. She should be able to show with the NPS as well. I believe that there are several Highland appreciation societies in the UK. What area are you in?

There's a rather nice highland x tb for sale on the TREC forum - and it's not terribly far away  The watcher has the most gorgeous tobagolings (arab stallion) by the way - just beautiful :D

OP - can pm me the details if you like, I have a couple of friends who breed highlands :)
