A couple of days ago I headed off with my pony for the first event of the season at Isleham and well to sum up the day it was very very funny.
First of all I was horrendously late for my dressage as it was at 11.28 and my sj was 13.52 and in my little muddled brain i got very confused and thought my dressage was 11.52 so when i rocked up to the secretarys to get my number at 11.30 i was very surprised to find they had put me down as a non starter
however the secretary could not have been nicer and radioed across to say i was on my way! Legged it to the dressage where i apologised again for being such a massive ditz and the steward was really lovely too. Louie was beside himself with all the galloping horses doing the xc so there was a fair few explosions in the warm up but eventually settled down so went into the ring went up the centre line beautifully, turned the corner to change the rein and he exploded
we then had several explosions during the test including in the free walk where we even left the arena
pretty much any time we turned back towards the xc he tried to join in! Well all i could do was laugh really and the judge was laughing and his writer was laughing. I got a most impressive 49 and my test sheet is now framed on my wall
here are a few photos of it
Then onto the sj where we had some more interesting moments in the warm up but he felt really forward and confident and actually jumped a really nice round (albeit with no brakes) just having number 2 down as he felt it was too small to bother with! I tried having huge massive studs in him yesterday as he really hates soft ground and can really lose his nerve and the big studs seemed to really really help so very pleased about that!
Then it was xc time, this is his worst phase as hes not very brave, he warmed up brilliantly though and was really taking me into the fences so started to feel a bit more hopeful! He set out really confidently and flew the first 5 fences beautifully, taking me forward with no hesitation and then it all went wrong. Number 6 was a trakhener but you cant see the ditch until you are literally on top of the fence. So we got to the fence, he went to take off, saw the ditch and thought perhaps not
i showed true commitment to jumping the fence and i carried on over it with his bridle
well at least i gave him a good demonstration on how to do it! I cleared it beautifully even if i do say so myself
anyway jumped up, retacked him up (he was just grazing nearby, i love my horse) and tried again. We eventually managed to get over it but he had just lost his nerve and didnt want to play any more so took him back to the warm up and popped him over a couple of warm up fences to get his confidence back. A couple of photos of him just looking gorgeous

So all in all it was a very amusing day for both me and whoever happened to be watching my performances and im actually really pleased with the pony, his sj was good and he started the xc sooooo much better than last year (well just ignore the dressage
) if numpty on top hadnt decided to take a flying lesson we would have got round the course i think. Well done if you get to the end of this and i hope ive made some people laugh
