hilary vernon

I don't know if this is any help at all as I have never used Hilary, but if you are looking for bitting advice I can highly recommend Heather's bitting helpline - number on the neue schule website, no hard sell and very, very helpful!

Yes recently, she came to the yard and did a talk and then did each individual horse. She favours mylers and Saf does seem to be going better since the change and has more bend through the poll. Fairly expensive

I have Hilary out for a 121 session.

Very knowledgeable lady, spent about 2 hours with and my horse.

My horse is in a myler and seems to be going better in it.

Not the cheapest - but I think worth the investment.

Hilary's Informed Bitting website is excellent, give her a call or send an email first off and see what she suggests.

i haven't had a 121 session but did speak at length to her about Dan a few years back. Sadly the bit she suggested as being 'perfect' and 'absoltuley the right one' for him well wasn't. yes it was a myler btw

Thing with Dan though is that he has stumped several bit experts. Dressage is not a problem but jumping is (well was now as he retired from jumping). One 'bit expert' tried to blame his schooling, but they changed their tune when I told them he was schooled med/ad med and then they proceeded to see him work. They couldn't suggest anything I hadn't already tried.

My one comment with any bit 'expert' would be they need to see the horse to give a true opinion especially for the bigger problems. Each horse has a different mouth confirmation which is best seen not described. Also they need to assess how you ride as well as that will make an obvious difference to the bit that will be required.

Hilary is a very educated lady and i own several of her books. However though she told me she isnt paid by myler to represent them, she believes in their system and i havent heard of her recommending any other thing. I went to one of her lectures discussed the myler system with her ( i was writing an article on bitting) and then someone from myler or there representative made the magazine in question delete the paragraph of 'cons' which all the other manufacturers allowed.
those people who have said that you need to see horse and rider as a pair are IMO right on the money. i like to assesss people as a combination, though if asked i wil give my thoughts on various systems.

We have had her out to our 2 boys after seeing her at a demo, both the bits she recommended are doing their stuff (yes both are Mylers) she took her time watching them being ridden and looking at the conformation of their mouths. For the fizzy little man she recommended a 'training' bit for at home and also which dressage/eventing legal one to use for competitions (still looking for that one via ebay!!). I have also purchased one of her books - to me she makes sense and I could listen to her for hours!!
(Blimey I sound a sad person!!)
