anyone made their own field harrow? i have a landrover discovery so can drag something around field. I also have several old metal gates - a lighter one i use with a large piece of wood to level my arena. wondered whether i could drag one of these around. anyone tried anything similar?
any ideas, suggestions welcome?

i can't spell!! home made rather than hime made (whatever that is!!)

Its easy enough i must admit to find something like a gate or long bit of metal to drag around but all this will acheive is knocking down them pesky mole hills, you dont really have any harrowing action going on, ive said on the forum before chain harrows are all well and good too but dont work the same as a tined grassland harrow, its the tines that do the proper job, ripping out dead moss/grass and air'ing the soil to create new growth and revitalize old pastures.

So in that case... is there any way of adding "tines" to the old gate/metal bar? :)

Yes i dont see why not, could get something knocked up as "home made" to pull behind a quad or landy although i might just add replacement tines for my grass harrow are 2-3 quid a piece, as everything now a days things dont come cheap!!! It would not be a case of stick a couple on either, you would need a fair amount to make or to get anywhere near a finish a normal grassland harrow would make.
