Anyone had a horse with the above that has had any of the newer therapies like stem cell etc done on it? Vet says shockwave would be of no use. I am only interested in a better end repair than trying to speed recovery up
My horse has the injury you describe, it's a 4cm tear just above the fetlock in his case, he has been on box rest with a support bandage since November, he was also cold booted twice daily.
The scans/x-rays carried out my vet showed nothing significant but he wasn't improving and was I felt in obvious discomfort so he was referred to Rossdales in February at my request.
Rossdales performed an operation to cut his annular ligament in February to release swelling and tidied up the site of the tear. Since then he has had two IRAP injections.
However I have been told due to the size and sight of the injury he will never be 100% sound (he is one tenth lame in trot in a straight line and two tenths lame on a circle) and is likely to be a light hack at most.
On sunday he was finally allowed to go out in a 15m x 15m pen for the first time in months.![]()
I do feel if his injury had been picked up and treated correctly when it happened I might be looking at a more positive outcome now.
