Hi,

I did write a long post which I've deleted, but essentially my horse lacks power in one hind limb. He's getting on in years (he's over 20), has recently had the chiropractor out after not being able to get up to eat (loads better after the treatment). He's had a new farrier recently after the old one was not taking anything off and the toes where getting too long. He was better (although not quite right) after the new farrier sorted his feet out. He'll still do an extended trot round the field if he wants to, or canter away when you turn him out.

I'm not sure whether to get the chiro out again or call the vet or whether the long toes have strained his ligaments & he needs more rest, or whether he's just old & needs to retire :(.

Some guidance would be most welcome.

Definitely vet!! I would have got the vet first to be honest, no physio or chiro should really be treating a horse without vet consent I believe, particualrly if the horse was struggling to get up.

I had an old TB as a livery he was late 20,s his hindquarters became wasted and consequently he was weak behind and then also had trouble getting up, its just getting old unfortuntely nothing much you can do but as others have said best get a vet to see if this is the case with your horse
