New pony came to us two weeks ago. Lovely cob who is very overweight and hadn't had regular exercise over the last 8 months. Stage 5 vertting all good etc. Previously was in regular work doing PC, rallies, SJ all at low level but regular.

Seemed to settle in well, 24/7 turn out, now with a small herd. He is on a diet and now in regular work - walk, trot, mix of hacking and schooling but mindful of his level of fitness. He's not a stressy type at all but I think the combo of diet and work might disagree with him a little.

He's a gready chap, had to work on his manners as he would put his head down for grass at every possible turn. He was also very used to having a heynet in the field and whenever he was being groomed/tacked up etc. We've worked on stopping this and he's been very responsive.

The last few times we've tacked up I've noticed some grumpiness when doing up his girth on the right side. I always go slow and increase it a hole at a time but he's not partially happy being groomed on this side either. Fine on the left.

I suspect hind-gut issues which won't show up in a scope. I'm happy to scope however, I'm mindful not to put him through this so soon after having his world changed. Tack was checked recently but will have that checked again and phyio but if it is ulcers, the sooner treatment starts the better.

Can anyone recommend a good hind-gut ulcer supplement at all or offer any insight? Thank you
