I am beginning to suspect Hind gut ulcers. It is hard to pin point what exactly is wrong with him but he just not his happy self he didnt eat hard feed Sat night or Sunday morning but ate again Sun night he never does huge piles of droppings just little bits, he had mild impaction colic a couple of weeks ago at a 2 day show and he has suddenly become girth sensitive and looking up sites this seems to point to this condition. but I would like to try some natural/ herbal type supplements. All I can find on the internet are American or Australian sites for this type of thing. Anyone here used any natural type digestive aid with success. He is a 9 year old show jumper.

We only bought him over from Switzerland in May,had his bloods taken he was then post viral and off colour for 2 months so gave him blood tonic. He picked up and in great form was wormed in September and has been fine until the colic episode. He gets 2 scoops Horse and Pony nuts twice a day and hay, carrots and apples a couple of times a week. Caron oil in his morning food and electrolytes after competing. He is ridden every day and usually put in the walker as well. Mostly hacking and going to the gallops with 1 day schooling and then competing weekends.

Do you soak his cubes? I believe cubes are best fed soaked, as the horse's natural feed of grass is full of moisture. Does he get adlib hay, as this is important to keep his gut working properly too. Does he get any turnout?

PS: Would be a good idea to get the horse scoped so you can find out whether he really has got ulcers, before spending money on supplements etc.
