I will be getting it checked but in the meantime, just wondered if anyone has any ideas?
Noticed my horse felt weird in trot but only the first trot and a few strides. After that fine for the rest of the ride. Fine in canter and walk. Did it again the next time I rode, so I lead her off my other horse to watch her trot and see what happens and looks like she is dropping her hip on one side. But again after the first few strides she stops doing it, then starts snd stops trotting no problem. She doesn't seem bothered at all but I am! ?

Are you riding straight from the stable or from the field?

How is she to pick out her hind feet?

It sounds not unlike locking stifles.

From the field, fine to pick out feet, she was shod recently also and the farrier never mentioned anything.

I was looking at videos of that.. It looks quite extreme though, hopefully this isnt something that gets worse!

Locking isn't always extreme. Mine didn't lock backwards but if you picked a foot up after he had been stood in for a while it would come up with a snap. If I had ridden him without picking out his feet he would have done something similar to what you describe with your mare.

I had a mare who did this, she just stopped doing it after a while, never did get to the bottom of it, it was years ago, maybe it was ovarian related.

I was going to mention locking stifles too or rather sticking ones.
Mine had it over the last winter (he was 5) and it would be just as he came out of the stable for the first few strides and then he would be fine. It was very gradual at first and then he was very lame for about 20 strides or so until he worked it off. They never locked as such but it was very alarming.

Thanks for the replies. Vet suspects it may well be bone spavin, but says too early to say if it needs more treatment/investigation, will do a weeks rest with bute first to see if it helps. Im gutted shes only 12 ?
