Frankie (cob) is just back in work following saddle/back/hind muscle problems. He's been going really well and we're now up to 40mins in walk.
Hacked yesterday and when walking in hand back to field noticed a brief "goose step" (not very marked but noticable) from left hind however put this down to treading on a wee stone(he's barefoot).
Received a text from his field mates owner today saying he was resting his left hind alot and was goose stepping slightly again.
Went down to field - very miserable grumpy coblet. Resting left hind. Removed muzzle and he moved off to graze.
He-s covered in mud and has obviously been tearing round the field with his friends. His right hamstring is a wee bit tight. Took him to yard for further prodding - very slow and grumpy - left hind occassionally goose steppy and over-tracking, right hind tracking short.
Left hind had a few wee gritty bits near white line which I removed. Happy to lift left hind and stand on three legs, not so happy to lift right hind - again I presume this is left hind soreness?
He seems to be "goose stepping" as he is reluctant to put down the left hind - I'm guessing its sore. He doesnt do it every stride and its only vaguely noticable.
Backing him up a few steps seems to make it better. When I turned him out he trotted off grumpily and was tracking up on both sides however was again on occasions reluctant to put left hind down. Again found another wee gritty bit in left foot.
My gut reaction (hopeful!) is that he is foot sore on left hind and has also probably tweaked something in the field.
What do others think/suggest?
Beer and choccies for reading!
