hi i have just joined this forum to see if i can get opinions on my horse.

He recently had a loose shoe on his hind leg and then pulled it off the day the farrier came. after he pulled it off he became lame and still had some nails in his foot.
When the farrier came he wouldn't put any weight on that foot and but the farrier manged to sort him out and re shoe him. he just siad it was because he has weak soles and must stood on a sharp stone. however 2 days later he is very lame on this foot and will only just about put his full weight on it.

has anybody got any ideas on what it might be? do you think he just has a sore foot or could it be more sinister?

thanks for reading and i would like to hear your opinions.

Abcess !call your farrier out to have a look.He will find deep bruise or abcess and be able to treat for you .Nail has probably caused infection , if he cant drain it or find bruise then maybe vet will need to look and give anti biotics.Just one option

Could be abcess or could be a bruised sole... nail bind... anything. OR, as in my case, it could be a total red herring. My horse had the exact same thing happen and is now awaiting surgery for OCD, so it's not always a given that it's in the foot. Start with your farrier, then get your vet out.

The same happened with my horse this last week couldnt put any weight on leg and had heat and swelling but if you tried to pick foot up he would kick you, got vet (thought at least they could sedate to get a proper look) but gave some painkillers and antibiotics after a couple of days swelling went down then about 24 hours after that noticed that an abscess had burst along his coronet so now trying to ensure all the yuck is out. With one thing and another I have kept the vets busy this month roll on September.
