This morning when I turned my 4 yr old out she looked a bit stiff on her off hind. She was stood on it funny in the stable (was on the floor fine but just didn't look right - one of those moments of knowing your own horse!) Walked her to the field and small child advised she looked stiff on it, not short, tracked up fine.

Watched her walk across field tonight and she's a bit lame on it. Field is v.v. wet and I'm wondering if she's twisted it in the mud?? I've brought her in for the night as usual, there is no heat, injuries or swelling anywhere I can see (hoof / foot also seems fine)

Any other suggestions?? This is a bit typical really cos she's meant to be going off to be backed at the end of next week!!

Could be a stifle injury? My horse once pulled a muscle in the stifle area being silly in a muddy field. I would call the vet, and keep her in just in case

Yes when my horse did it he was hopping lame, but like you couldnt see any heat/swelling in his legs. As soon as the vet saw him he knew exactly where it was. Took a good couple of weeks box rest for him to come right though Im afraid

My horse had a stifle ligament injury, usually with this type of injury you would expect to see the horses leg swinging out to the side as it tries to avoid the pain which is what Miki was doing.
