I will try and keep this short!

My mare has some problems in her front legs (high ringbone, DJD, sidebones) but we have managed to get that all under control and she is sound, fit and happy!
She has always been a bit clicky behind and myself and the vet have always just said shes clearly a bit arthritic but nothing to worry about for now. She had Tildren last September as my vet felt it would help all round with her problems which it did and it is being redone in 2 weeks time so I will speak to him them about the back legs but thought id see if there is anyone on here that could help!

She has been living out 24/7 over summer and is in about 4 days a week work for the last few months mainly hacking for an hour + at a time but had a week off until yesterday as I was away. I rode her yesterday and she was noticeably stiff behind (which is unlike her) she drags her back feet around when not being ridden which wont be helping (and has lovely square back toes due to this ).

She is currently on 99% glucosamine supplement once a day and linseed oil to help with her joints but I am not noticing much of a difference. This is from the vet and I have just used it until the insurance runs out next month so its paid for.
I was wondering if maybe moving her onto something like Cortaflex would be a good idea once I have run out of Glucosamine if anybody has any experience of this?

Also is there anything else I can do to help? She is 15, 16 in January so I am wondering whether it would be a good idea to have them injected due to the fact that once she is 17 (I am sure this is the age the insurance changes) they will more than likely only pay out for external injury and I wont be able to claim for something like arthirits?

I am going to try and keep her in as much work as possible, especially over the winter when she is likely to stiffen up but as we all know it isn't always that easy in winter with work/daylight houyrs etc but I will try my best. She also wears front leg wraps at night in winter in her stable which helps so I may invest in some for the backs. Not too keen on the idea of magnets to be honest but any advice on these would be great if they are going to help!!

Thanks in advance!:o

My lad has been stiff in his back legs coming out of the stable in the mornings for the last couple of weeks - since the weather has got cooler and more wet. He is stabled at night due to past laminitis.
I have found he loosens up pretty quickly for some walking about and that putting a rug on when it is cooler and wet helps. It is a concern as we have not yet set into winter and he seems to have had many problems on and off with it this year.
I aim to exercise him at least four times per week in the winter, rug him and give bute if needed - but would rather not as yet. If he is still able to walk it off in the morning then there is not much more I can do, but it is tricky and the treatments and lotions and potions are not guarenteed to help. Mine is a welsh D who turned 16 this year.
I have rubber mats in my stable and a good thick bed for warmth.

Mine is living out and this definitely helps, I have just noticed that recently she takes a fair bit of warming up when she is worked.
I am going to order another pair of stable chaps for her backs for the winter as these really helped on her fronts last year so may be something you could look into?

I think work is also definitely the key so I am going to try my hardest to keep her in as much work as possible when the cold weather comes. Im also going to look at changing her onto either Superflex or Cortaflex so help with her over all mobility!

Newmarket supplement, cosequin and synequin have undergone rigorous laboratory testing and have proven results. Don't keep her in as much as possible during winter, this is the WORST thing you can do for arthritis as you need to keep the joints moving. Get some good magnetic boots for her and ride every day for 20 mins rather than once a week for an hour.

My horse had three lots of tildren, injections and ethanol fusion.

Oh no, I wont be keeping her "in" as much as possible, I said "keep her in as much work as possible" :)
I dont like the idea of Magnetic boots and to be honest there is nothing proving that they actually do anything so I think I may stick to regular stable chaps for now.
Thanks for the advice on the supplements though :)

She had injections in her fronts almost 2 years ago and Tildren last September which has made a huge imporvement in her so that is being re-done next week!

Last year my 8 year old mare was having problems with her hind legs. Shes been diagnosed with tenosynovitis and has recently had her annular ligaments cut. But i did put her on Equimins Flexijoint which was a cheaper supplement than some of the others and after about 3mths she was alot less stiff in the mornings. It also has a money back guarantee if it doesnt work :) x

All of these supplements are mind boggling!! I have done a fair bnit of research today but it seems that when a couple people recommend one thing, a couple more say how it made no difference. And the price difference in them all is huge!
I will speak to the vet next week as I still have almost 2 tubs ot her current supplement to get through and then I will decide what to do about changing as right now I really have no idea!! :)

Yes you did and I apologise. One of the drawbacks of nearing the end of your lunch break and trying to reply as quickly as possible! Sorry x
