Thank you so much.
He has arthritis in the lower joints of the hocks. The right one is almost fused and he's only 8!
He's had steroid injections and I'll start riding in a week's time and see if he's more comfortable.
Vet did warn that it is very much possible that there's something else going on too so the first thing to gauge is whether the steroid makes him more comfortable.

Oh, that's not too bad then! Hopefully it will fuse completely soon!
And if the right does maybe the left will follow it!

Yes, possibly. But at least you have somewhere to start. Let us know how he goes

Thank you. Fingers crossed there's nothing else going on.
Let us know once you have some more info on yours.
Why do horses have to be so complicated and breakable?

So, it's hocks.

But...they're not too bad. We've gone with steroid injections, may need one in sacroiliac as well depending on how she goes.

I'm relieved tbh. The more I thought about it the more I worried it might be suspensories, and the horse won't stable, never mind box rest. So it could have been much worse!

I am to do lots of long reining in walk after a few days off, then see how she looks

Great that it's not anything even worse....which part of the hock joint is the problem- the upper big joint or the lower small joints ? Have they fused ?
Sounds like we're at least initially dealing with the same thing then.
Only I suspect mine might have suspensory branch issue at least on the right as there's still swelling above the fetlock.

Yes, lower joints. It's sort of where the hock meets the leg, not sure of the proper term ?
No, not fused but it's only quite slight anyway really. Vet is optimistic so that's good!

Oh that's good news ! This seems to be quite common.
Interesting that he was toe dragging as mine wasn't. My previous horse had stifle OCD which caused him to toe drag.
Wish they could all follow a manual lol !

Aw I’m sorry :(

my gelding was diagnosed with 1/10 bone spavin in right hock and the beginnings of formation of it in the other. He has cartrophen and supplements, regular bodywork/physio etc.

Fingers crossed for you. X
