Hi, 9yo jumping mare possibly got cast(but unsure really) 3 weeks ago and had swelling of hind fetlock to mid canon region but no swelling of hock in morning. Not really lame save for first few steps and swelling goes down with exercise and ice boot, but never goes away completely. I am concerned now as 3 weeks down the line and no sign of improvement. Is this typical of tendon or suspensory ligament injury? Should I be riding her still? Don't want to stop riding her as she seems sound and about to start jumping gp's this yr! Dont want to do serious damage either! Can someone help??

I would get the vet out to scan etc to find out what is going on 3 weeks with no improvement is too long really even if she is not lame, it is not worth the risk with a horse competing at that level. The most insignificant injury can cause long term damage if not treated appropriately.

I would say tendon injury low down.... Sounds just like my horse a few years ago. He did his sdft. Get vet and box rest till you know what's going on.
