Does any one know if a horse can throw a hind splint, like they can on their front legs? A friends cob came out of the show ring lame on sunday, with a bony lump appearing about a hands width above the fetlock joint, which is apparent on either side of the cannon bone and feels hard to touch, but with no heat.
The horse is not hugely lame so my friend is giving him a few days rest to see if the lump goes on its own before calling the vet. Any ideas welcomed.
Thanks

Yes, mine threw a HUGE one behind. Unfortunately they can be more problematic than ones in front. Mine came sound with cold hosing and hydrotherapy.

yes they can , my old horse got a large one on the inside of his hind leg when he was 4yrs. i cant remember him being lame though !?. over the years it gradually got smaller and he is now 25yrs and still going strong and the splint more or less disappeared
