Hi, please can anyone help? A week ago i bought my horse out of the stable first thing in the morning and he came out hopping lame!! He had previousy been 100%. There is no heat/swelling etc and digital pulse normal.(also NO response on palpation) Had vet out who couldnt shed any light on it so box rest and bute. Now one week later he is 100% weight bearing, totally sound in walk and 99% sound when trotted up.(he tracks up fine and footfall even just slight dip on pelvis) (still on bute) Vet said good that he responded to bute so quickly but then went on to frighten me by mentioning pedal bone fracture?? He comes off bute tomorrow and im terrified as i know he will still be lame. Please if anyone has any ideas or similar experiences i would love to hear from you. Thank you

Could possibly be a sacroiliac injury or pelvis injury. My lad Ronnie was very lame with his sacroiliac, so lame they thought it was a pelvic fracture. Was the bed very messed up that morning? They can do silly things if they get cast.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon. Not knowing what's wrong is so hard to bear.

Thanks Becky, youre so right..its the not knowing and feeling useless! The bed wasnt messed up and didnt see any sign of scrapes on the wall etc. Hes now had nearly 24hrs off bute and seems ok (so far) but he is still dipping "bad" side in trot.

Ask vet if you can have the chiro out. They should be able to tell you if he's put his pelvis out. So horrible not knowing how to make them better.

Vet said good that he responded to bute so quickly but then went on to frighten me by mentioning pedal bone fracture??

My vet was convinced that Ludo had fractured his pedal bone when he managed to twist a shoe and the clilp when inside the hoof wall. He hadn't, he's just a huge softy when it comes to his feet and acts like his leg is dropping off! Good luck with finding the cause, and fingers X'd for a quick recovery.

Thank you all for your replies. He has been off the bute for 48hrs now and really lame again.(a bit odd as the first trot up sound then hopping on the second one!) Vet coming out at 2pm. Just feel awful!!

oh god!! Vet out today, took 8 x-rays. she said it was promising though as only 1/10 lameness as opposed to 4/10 last week. She rang back and said x-ray processor not working properly and rads were overdeveloped but she susspects high ring bone. What is the prognosis?? have read so many contradicting ideas and am really scared this is the end of his ridden career if not, in the future, his life. please help

Did you get the results to the X-rays? If so & it's to do with ringbone,my TB had high & low ringbone & I can probably help with your questions..:)
