Back at the end of September my mare (who enjoys to colic) looked like she was on the verge so I buted her and put her in the lunge pen to have a fart and a buck (always gaseous colic). She absolutely turned herself inside out and when I sat on her the next day she was lame on her left hind....no heat or swelling in her leg but extremely unlevel, 4/10s lame when trotted up and examined by my chiropractor. She had one vet out who advised to get my chiropractor to look at her which I did, few days later...no better. She had another couple of treatments along with rest and still no improvement. I then got one of the partners of the surgery (who is an extremely good vet) to have a look and he suggested she had done something to her hip joint! 3 weeks box rest, high bute dose for 2 weeks! When she was trotted up after this she was straighter i.e. not rotating the hip, the vet said she was mechanically lame (she has always been weak on the left...typical ish) and to work her to build up the muscle. She had to have until christmas off because I couldn't do any consistent work with her and thought rest was less detrimental then inconsistency! She walked for 2 months and we have just started trotting and doing some light pole work! I lunged her today over some poles to see how she is moving and she can pick up her hoof but looks like she's struggling to bring it forward through the movement? I've had a masters of method lady out to her who has been really good and says she suspects she has something going on in her right-hindquarters and thats causing her to over-compensate on the left, pulling the muscles down hence the unlevelness! Has anybody had anything similar? Heard/seen anything similar? Sorry about all the info! I am getting the vet back out to her tomorrow as I'm not happy!
