Vet prices range an awfull lot - all charging for full GA - is there a reason they cant be knocked out using Domitor/Antisedan rather than using gases? surely the less time the dog is out the better and it isnt going to take ages to xray her?

My vets don't use GA, but think they are in the minority as people travel from miles to get them done. Last time I was there (they are in S Cheshire) there were some people there from northumberland.

well the vet only want £400!!! (only) the the £90 fee for scoring!!!

does anyone know anything about the other hip scoring method that has been talked about and if breeders may be switching to it? Dont want to spend all that money to find ppl are using diff scoring system!!!

Just checked my bill for Evie. Hips and elbows £132, plus the fee to the KC for scoring. The other good thing is that my vet is brilliant at reading plates and predicting scores, he is usually very close to the BVA score, saves those extra weeks of stress, or in worse case puts you out of your misery sooner.

PennHIP is the brain child of Dr Gail Smith at the University of Pennsylvania in the USA. He has proven that the degree of hip laxity correlates directly with the likelihood of the dog developing hip osteoarthritis later in life. The laxity is measured by taking X-rays with the hip joints forced apart, and is called the distraction view.
This scheme can be applied to dogs over 4 months of age. Three separate X-rays are taken and the films are sent to Pennsylvania for assessment.
*******The PennHIP method requires manual holding of the anaesthetised dog and is against Health and Safety regulations and so is illegal in the UK and many other countries.*****
Mike Guilliard has developed a hands-free method that has now been validated by PennHIP. At present he is the only person in the UK who can legally take X-rays for the PennHIP scheme.

***** how interesting

Vixann, just butting in here. Had a phone call from K9h just now asking me to let you know she'll be back on tomorrow but she had her bitch done recently-ish, without the GA and it was nothing like your vet charges. It was over your way too, so sit on your hands until she can get back to you if that's alright?

There, my good deed done for the day. :)

Cheers P for doing that!

I had my girl done at, P Richmond in Dewsbury. She was dope not GA. Cost me £90! Plus the vet that did it is used by a friend who is a top breeder & also police dogs too!
I went with breeder friend, her dog cost £112 bt it weighed more so had more dope!
