After getting trapped in my current winter riding coat once too often by the failing zip, have accepted that it's time for a new one however I'm having no luck whatsoever in finding anything I like. What I'm after is a warm, waterproof hip or 3/4 length coat ideally in hi viz orange but failing that black. I would like it to be fitted to the waist and then skirt out. There seems to be an overwhelming choice of shorter jacket length options but nothing a bit longer but not full length - any one got any inspiration? I'd rather buy good quality and understand it could be expensive.

I've recently bought (on sale!) an Ariat H20 Sterling that might be long enough for you, and it slightly skirts out from the waist (it has vents that unzip, but they are material vents rather than splits). It sits somewhere between hip length and mid-thigh on me (though I'm not tall). It only comes in dark grey, but it's warm (though not bulky) and waterproof. I'm really pleased with it.
