Hippo has moved!

We moved on Friday morning. Yup, Friday 13th...and yes, she loaded like a dream for once I did hit my head off a rug rack though. And I tripped in a pot hole. And gave myself a paper cut opening a bale of chaffHippo had no sympathy for me - she was in shock over how much hay she had been given! Proper ad-lib hay...wow!

She did barge out of her stable past me once, more bruises, but I got her under control and put her back in. I'd like to think it was new home stress, etc, but she's been a bit disrespectful of me lately. Working on fixing this. Will be seeking professional help over the summer.

She was in yesterday and today. She goes out to her new field tomorrow. Today was worming day - Hippo thinks we were trying to poison her, lol! The vet will be out this week coming to examine her lump. It isn't improving

I volunteered to help out with the beginners ride today - half hour hack, tiny children on fuzzy ponies, etc. The instructor suggested afterwards that it would be worthwhile my looking into getting a few qualifications, as I seem to have a knack for working with kids and animals. I'm well chuffed. So it seems I'm now helping out on Saturday mornings

Really glad it went well, nice that there are nice round ponies to take your mind off your worries. I am sure once you settle down and can start to do things with Hippo, you will begin to exert a gentle authority over Hippo. Things do start to fall into place after a while (a year on they have for me).

Hope her lump is easily sorted and that you are worrying over nothing

Yes, we worked on improving her respect of humans today. Back to groundwork...has to be done, I know. Lots of leading out in hand, lunging, etc.

The lump is definately painful - she now flinches if you even get within 6" of it whilst grooming her So am very keen to get it sorted. And scared of it being bad news. All I can do is wait for the vet.

Turned her out today - she's in with two very small cobs and a thelwell type pony...settled down to grazing in under five minutes, after the tiny pony chased her up the field a bit

She has quite a few admirers so far...

I'm hoping to get an appointment for Wednesday of this week coming, but it may have to be Thursday - will double check with vet tomorrow. I could have gotten Tuesday but I will be having a tooth pulled...not going to be in any fit state to handle Hippo after that!

Can't put dentist off - I've been suffering since January with a broken tooth. She wanted to try root canal at first but the tooth is too weak; it's crumbling away. I've had two infections in my jaw out of this so far

Will keep you all updated on how Hippo is.

I can't be sedated due to my epilepsy, so she will freeze my jaw and yank it out whilst I try not to faint and/or bolt out the door...last time I had this sort of work done was seven years ago. Ended up in shock and almost had to go to A&E due to heavy bleeding...

I need to stop breaking my teeth!

Update: Vet is coming out on Wednesday.

The lump wasn't oozing yesterday, will check it again today, but I think it has sealed over again. Hopefully this is a good thing...

Going to do lots of groundwork, etc today. Planning to go for another long walk with her - provided the tiny pony hasn't eaten her in the night!

Wow...what can I say?

She's like a different horse entirely today! If I hadn't seen her little chesnut star for myself I would have thought that someone had swopped her! This new yard has been the right move: Hippo was really relaxed today She also seemed far less stiff; clearly more turnout is what she needed. And she has a buddy already - one of the riding centre ponies.
