Hi everyone,

What would you say is a normal cost for a hireling for a day of hunting? I've been quoted £320 which seems an awful lot? plus the hunt cap on top of that.

Maybe this is normal though? Would love to know what the usual range is.

Thanks!

It is about normal, there is a place near me that is nearer £300 than £250 from memory, and they aren't all that reputable so a reputable place will likely charge more.

It is a lot, but hunting is a high risk/taxing outing for a horse, they require lots of fitness input over time to get them ready to go, plus a fair bit of schooling to be safe for potential novicey riders (people overestimate), likely a good bit of feed depending on type, the insurance will be SKY high, the days worth of wages for two members of staff to travel horse there, fuel, lorry costs, time taken to turnout before that.

Which pack are you going with. A big galloping/jumping pack will need an elite hunter and £320 would be fair, you will probably also find the horse will finish at 2pm.

A pack hunting a trappy country you should be looking at £250/275 for a slower type of horse.

Make sure the premise you are hiring from is licensed. No licence = no insurance = stuffed if you get buried.

£250-275 in Shropshire/Herefordshire. Plus the cap. Very good reputation and nice horses

Yes when you put it like this it does seem about right! Thank you :)
