hiring a photographer, experiences, recommendations?

We had a lovely woman who came to the yard and took an hour with everyone who wanted for a 'free' photoshoot.
What was not made clear at the time - despite several people asking,,,
Afterwards the photos were only available to view only by visiting her home, during work hours (No good to me working full time)
Yes the photos were SUPER expensive, (I do understand why - cameras and time are not cheap) - However if she could have given a ball park figure, we probably wouldn't have had her visit the yard, and save everyone a lot of time!

She was very insistent that we should 'see the photos before the prices'... needless to say, once the first person had viewed the images, and reported the prices - the rest of us had to politely decline!!

Such a shame as I am sure some of the photos would have been really stunning!

Hope you find a really good one OP! :)

Where abouts are you OP - There is a nice one I see on facebook regularly,,, https://www.facebook.com/EmmaBearmanPhotography - I have no personal experience with her, but some of the shots are stunning!

Daft woman (photographer, not you) . . . needs a lesson in marketing, sales and customer management!

Exactly PolarSkye and Melon!!

I was actually a bit annoyed after i spent all that time plaiting and washing - If I knew the price to begin I would not have bothered.

She turned out to be a bit fruitloop anyway!
OP if I remember her name I will PM you :)

Sorry for the late response; been a bit of a rush on at home. We are currently in Essex/ Herts borders but currently in process of selling our (functional but unlovely to look at) farm and buying one in surrey (if all goes to plan). This is obviously taking loads of time and energy. We're hoping to have sorted it out by christmas so realistically this would be when I'd be looking to book a session.
As one poster said, I would love to have some treasured memories of my boys (and maybe the assorted herd of retirees and outgrown ponies!) seeing as I spend so much on them, seems silly not to divert a bit into some pro images.

There've been some really great suggestions and thanks for all your (very helpful) input. I'll let you know how we get on and hopefully be able to post some pictures at some point! I also remain hopeful that I might achieve a stop gap of something more than an out of focus muzzle and shoulder.
