Hugo's blond mane was beautiful! But after being under a rug for all this time, he's virtually bald! :(

I have taken the neck part off, but is there anything I can do about this? There are products on the market - does anyone have any experience of any??

Its a bit late now for Hugo:) but I've been lashing Cowboy Magic detangler on my mares mane every 3/4 days, and so far she's not lost any.

Gold label wonder gel is supposed to be good for encouraging hair growth and so is cornucresine but i think this would be very messy!!! Global Herbs also do a product called hair-rite although i dont know much about it.
Does the neck on the rug have a seam that is rubbing?
Next year you could try a stretch lycra hood under the neck (if you haven't tried one already!)

He didn't have a stretchy hood, but may well try it if we have the neck on next year. I think we may just do without! There isn't a seam to rub. It has actually happened during this week, mainly. I am right cheesed off! :p

Would NOT recommend putting a lycra hood on. I did this to try to protect my pony's mane from her full neck stable rug during the cold spell and it did nothing but haul all her mane out. She now has half a mane and it looks terrible and she probably wont have the best plaits for the show season.
Unfortunately I don't think there's much you can do about it, I've asked around a lot and most people just say to take the neck off and hope for the best.
Someone did say Aloe Vera might help and I put some of that on her today, but who knows.
Hope your boy's grows back soon, I feel your frustration!

Happened to my boy last year! I just had to wait it out, it only grew back fully about two months ago :(

My mare has a full neck on, but her mane is long and silky and lies flat, so I haven't had a problem with her, yet!

My boy hasnt had a neck on this year, i'd rather him hairy than bald :P

Oh dear - I had the same prob last year with my Friesian. This year we have a chaser clip and no neck rug - his mane has grown almost 6" over the yr after being completely rubbed out - so just be patient it will grow again!:)

Thanks - that is encouraging! :) No neck rug from now on (he's quite woolly enough, I reckon!)

BEAUTIFUL horse, by the way!:D
