History of the saddle

Hi guys,

I need your help!

For my advanced higher product design course, part of what I am doing is investigating the history of the saddle and its development to moder day/designs for the future. I'm getting there with it but the information I have foind is pretty fragmented. Just thought it would be worth posting here incase there are any saddle experts out there who could help and give me a bit more info?

If you have time to visit, the Chateau of Saumur in the Loire Valley has a wonderful Museum of the Horse with a huge collection of ancient & medieval saddles, bridles etc.

Elwyn Hartley Edwards book The Saddle in Theory and Practice has a section on the history and development of the saddle ISBN 0-85131-526-7 It might be worth a read.
