Hit Air v Point Two air jackets?

There are benefits to the looser fit of the Point 2. I like the fact that it lets air in to swirl around your body and keep cool in summer. And I like the fact that I can vary the clothes I wear under it without adjusting the fit.

Otherwise, I would probably go for the cheaper, I feel they are pretty much equal. I do like the tucked up tail design of the Hit Air though. Even with a flat cantle on the saddle I hunt in, I can sometimes feel the P2 catching on it.

Don't forget the Helite too. The original P2, in fact, sold under license until they developed their own.

I'd definitely get one though. I doubt very much if I could have fallen onto my back on a tarmac road from a rearing horse without even a bruise unless I'd had mine on earlier this year. I actually felt the bounce, and the look on people's faces as I stood straight up and walked off was priceless :)

I have previously posted about the new plastic collar on the P2 cannisters, which provides an additional point of failure. I took an engineer (a proper one, not a washing machine repair man!) to see one and while he agrees it is an additional point of failure, he was impressed with the design of both that and the trigger.

And I have to say that the bayonet 'push and turn' fitting is much easier than to screw the cylinder in, especially if I was out hunting between hedges. Yes, I really do carry a spare :D !

I have no connection to P2, this is a genuine opinion from a long term user. 4 cannisters this year and counting!

I love my Point Two. It's not bulky like some people make out. It made me feel safe, and wasn't at all 'intrusive' as it inflated. Plus the noise was little more than someone opening a crisp packet, so there's a far less risk of the horse bolting off without you because of the noise. I haven't as such fallen off in it, but if I do I'd defiantly feel
safer.

5 reasons why I'd recommend and love my Point Two

1 It inflates in 0.1 of a second, much faster than the Hit Air.

2 Replacing the canister only takes 5 min (now that's for a beginner, so you can imagine how quick it must be for someone experienced!) where as the Hit Air can sometimes take up to 15 mins!

3 The noise, I've got a 7yo whom can sometimes be spooky, and the last thing you want is to be abandoned in the middle of the country side out hunting or hacking.

4 The protection, event rider Laura Collett was saved by a Point 2

5 It's comfy, you hardly even know you're wearing it, even when it's inflated!

Hope this helps with your decision.

I just got a high viz hit air today. got it straight out with me for a hack. dont know your wearing it. i havent looked at the instructions yet as to how to change the cylinder but i doubt it rocket science.

the neck and back protector looks better than the p 2 which is why i went for it.

wore it over my jacket and felt really good. might try and set it off tomorrow and see how it goes.

Only just got my P2 today, and inflated it to see how it felt. Surprisingly,
the neck on the P2 is actually really high, despite it not looking so unless you're wearing it when inflated. My neck was really supported and I couldn't put it far back (preventing whiplash) I think they're both good, I just choose the P2 due to some preferences e.i. the noise, looks and the overall jacket :)

15 mins to change a hit air canister..??

Maybe if your blindfolded lol

Takes me little over 1 min to change mine, I've used 6 canisters so far. It's extremely simple.

I chose the hit-air as I preferred the fact that it inflates outwards away from you, rather than inwards and squashing into you. I also prefer the fit & design of the hit air.

Noise wise I have to say it's nothing like a crisp packet. My hunting friends still laugh about the rifle shot they heard the only time I've set mine off.

I have got a hit air as I found it fitted me better than the point 2. I use it to school my youngster and hardly know I am wearing it. I have fallen off onto hard ground with it on and didn't feel a thing. They are brilliant! My friend also has one and she found she preferred the hit air too. It doesn't take long to change the canister once you have done it and know what you are doing. The only thing I would say is that it does make a loud bang when it inflates but I don't know how loud the point 2 is.

The point 2's inflation is NOT significantly faster than the Hit Air at all. They have just been measured differently (the problem when there's no 'standard')
The point 2 is measured to when inflation starts.
The Hit Air is measured to full inflation.

Personally - I like the Helite. It is the old Point 2 design now produced under seperate licence. All the data on the Point 2 website, the CE certifications etc actually refer to what is now the helite. The thing that puts me off the Hit Air is that it is significantly slower to inflate and takes so long to deflate. I've seen a number of young riders stranded on thier back unable to move waiting for the Hit Air to deflate enough to flex. But the slightly roomier design of the point 2 means you can roll out of the way if you need to. I looked at the new Point 2 - but there is no safety data for it yet.

I was in the shop the other day when they fitted someone with one and that was a loud bang too. I think it may be yours which is unusual, because it's the same principle as an air rifle, letting loose highly compressed gas into a narrow tube, so it makes a similar noise. Unfortunately I've heard mine several times this year, but only once out hunting :)

Thanks for all the great feedback. I went for a Hit Air in the end as I liked the fit better with tucked up tail flap and around my body. They both seem of a high standard and haven't use dit yet.
