Having just got back from Munstead we had a mixed day, 3rd after the dressage, 3 poles sj and clear xc! All 3 fences were hit with hind legs and I'm not sure what went wrong, have a feeling he's getting a bit lazy over small fences or maybe I'm sitting up too soon? Hard to tell as didn't have anyone horsey watching but felt like I got him to the right spot each time and he was clearing the front by miles. He's just not snapping up his back legs each time but sometimes just letting them follow through...
Advice gratefully recieved!!

it could be saddle, or it could be that you are bringing your hands back a bit too soon so he's cramping behind when he feels you retake the contact, or that he's taking off on a bit of a flat parabola so clearing in front but flattening behind, did the round feel a bit fast? did you have a good positive bouncy canter?
did he hit front bar of spreads, or back bar of spreads, or uprights, or a mixture?
tbh impossible to say without seeing it, sorry.

Have you changed anything if this is a new thing? Any chance of getting a school with someone? As above, it could be all sorts of things. It's rare for horses to be having rails with their cannon's behind so taking off the boots, while it might help with hind end flexibilty, it's less likely than taking front boots off to "punish" a horse for a rail.

I think the saddle is ok as he jumped clear in our lesson over a bigger track and he was fantastic xc in the same tack so it must be something that either he, I or both are doing at the comp?... He didn't have any boots on today but will have another practice on our next lesson... He has done a season of BE100 before I had him so maybe the 90cm track is not that testing for him? Our canter was forward but not flat, it certainly felt a good round from my point of view, no missing a stride or too fast etc... just the blooming poles falling!

we had the same problem with our mare - this wont be popular but try pro jump boots by veredus (not as long as most flicker boots and legal to use in BS) only use at the show never at home worked for us.

Can I ask how these work? I've just had a quick look at one website but it didn't really explain what they do? I have some weighted fetlock boots but haven't tried them yet.

I think the pro jump fetlock boots are different from my weighted ones, there are also the NEW extender boots but have no experience of these? I am presuming his saddle is fine as he jumped well in my lesson and flew xc it was just the uprights really and the smaller fences which he just wasn't bringing his back legs up enough. It is such a shame as he always does a fab test and for once I felt like I din't mess up the striding but he has never been the most carefull of sj!
