My pony has lots of small lumps on his shoulder area - been told by prev. Owner he suffers with Hives --What can I do for him? He don't seem bothered by them at all.
my mare gets these when shes been bitten by flies! I usually give her some anti histamines in a slice of apple! I give her about 5 as I work out 1 for each 100kg, as they are meant for humans!
Tesco anti histamines are a lot cheaper than Piriton and are non-drowsy so they would be worth a try. Flies here are dreadful this year, both the big ones and the flipping midges. Our girls even had their knees covered in midges last night.. yuck!
We bought my horse with funny lumps, presumably hives, on his side. It almost put us off buying him as vet said she would put it on the vetting. However we did, and obviously came on here and saw a lot of people recommending antihistamines. However, there are side effects to these and they made no difference to my boys hives. We now think they are related to sugar in the grass (being 3/4 TB he is a sensitive chap) and they come up around now and they disappeared in autumn. I guess I'm just saying, if they aren't bothering him they might be best left alone.
