My 13 year old cousin lives in Canada and shares a horse - she has her 3 days a week. She sent me this e mail today asking if I have any suggestions and I'm flummoxed!

She wrote:

Whinny has hives all over her body we have been giving her horse antihistamines and they go away. But as soon as we take her off them the hives come back! My riding teacher doesn't know why she has them. Anyway my mom wants me to ask if you know why she might have them. We think she is alergic to something but dont know for sure. Is there anything we should know? My instructor is in the uk at the moment and the hives have gotten so bad that they are even on her face (at first they were just on her barrel, then her barrel and neck and now her barrel neck and face). Whinny's owner is trying to call the vet but they are closed today.

It would be nice to be the knowledgeable 'big cousin' and write back with something sensible so any suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated! My first thoughts were allergic reaction to a change of feed, bedding, hay or supplement. Any other ideas?

Ta xx
