Beau's dressage saddle has the bates interchangable gullet thing, anyway when I got him he was a medium gullet.

Ive got one of those gullet gauge things and measured him lastnight, he has gone up to an EXTRA WIDE!

I only measured him about 2 months ago and he was still a medium, I know he has filled out and his topline is building up, but he is now on the far end of the x wide, I think very shortly the saddle wont fit him at all.

Does anyone else have a warmblood like this...and can you recommend a good saddle that will be wide enough.

He is 17.3hh so a wide pony saddle wont do LOL

I dont think he looks that much wider though to the eye, lastnight:

Lance has always been an extra wide too, maybe its a warmblood thing?!

I'd also suggest a WOW, they really will allow for a very wide horse & have a greater range of width fittings tan other saddles. They're also easy to alter if he gets wider.

That's a lot of difference in a couple of months - are you certain you measured in the right place?

Yes absolutely, my YO is a qualified saddle fitter and she measured him too.

He was like a hat rack when we got him though, with no muscle at all and no topline.

If you are thinking of WOW try one first - I love mine but I know other people have posted saying they didn't get on with them & they are a lot of money.

Also be prepared for your horse to widen even more under one, though the way the saddle's designed you can still ride comfortably. Jim is now in a size 8 headplate, he started in a 3!!!! Ok he's a bit fat but he isn't that gross & he wasn't exactly skinny when I got it a couple of years ago - they just seem to allow the back muscles to develop & for a while I found that whenever the headplate was changed he widened to fill it!

I think so but have a look for yourself. The first pic is my RI on him two years ago when he had been in the WOW a few months (he was then 7), the second is me on him a few weeks ago. I can honestly say he wasn't working his best in the second one because I'd forgotten the camera until after he'd been cooled off so the poor lad had to pick up & do a bit more work which meant we were both a bit tired & droopy!

You're welcome!

I'm glad you like him - he's only 16.2 (so a pony by your standards

) but he's one of the biggest 16.2 I've ever come across & has so much presence that even if people don't like his type they do at least notice him. He's in a size 8 headplate at the moment & according to the WOW site a size 9 is equivalent to an 8X wide fitting so I think you'll find something to fit Beau & still have scope to change if his topline increases

.

If I were you I'd start selling the OH ASAP - could you find a WOW fitter who'd take him in part-exchange?
