My wonderful second sharer is off now for at very least 6 months, I have left the offer open for her to come back and share Ed once she returns, which I hope she'll take up as she really was a first rate sharer.

Now I have a few choices, I cannot afford him where he is now, alone. Do you think anyone would be interested in a short term share? I doubt it, as its really the arse end of everything now isnt it? Bad weather, little riding...

So do I move him, with a view to going back once my sharer (if) returns and risk my place at the yard? Or any other suggestions? Go for a short term sharer? It may not even BE short term as she may not decide to share him again, but I want to be honest with whoever takes him on.

Thoughts anyone please?

I would look for a new sharer and not move the horse. I wouldn't advertise it as a short term but put in the share agreement that you can terminate at any time (which I think it normal anyway). Then you can assess new sharer until/if/when old one wants to return and take it from there. You may find new one is better, new one agrees to split days with old one or that you win the lottery and don't need any of them ;)

advertise him as share its not far from spring now thats what i say xmas is over and done with and loaning in new year will be on the to do lists it seems strange your sharer has gone off for six month andcoming back summertime you never know you might find a ideal person who is just as good but then how would you explain you were terminating loan for someone else its such a small world new sharer might hear and be upset ?

She has to have time off due to falling off the horse and being injured, nothing untoward.

That's my issue Lizzy, that I will be being very duplicitous (sp) if I DON'T divulge my intentions from day dot to the prospective loaners..

Try advertising for 6 month share. You have nothing to lose and I would think with summer just around the corner (wishful thinking I know!) there will be people who will want to take on this. Also you could look at it as getting in a mum with kids who come June will have kids back from school and no time for horse so 6 months would be perfect!

Actually, you know, I would have liked a 6 month share when I was looking this time last year! As it turned out, I had my loaner for 7 months which was just enough to see whether I wanted to buy my own or not (I did, and I have ;)). Maybe there will be someone with a similar plan in mind - I think you should leave the horse where it is and see if you can get someone to fit in with you. Be honest, though. :D

i think to be honest re length of loan to spare a ideal loaners feelings someone might just want sixmonths to get back in saddle before the purchase and your horse sounds good if any ones ride, treat people hoe youd expect to be treated yourself re loaning fair and honest ,i think your doing the right thing he looks lovely btw

Yeah I always like to be honest, I made the mistake of not laying all my cards on the table with a previous loaner of an old horse, it caused us both a lot of heartache.

He is lovely, thank you. A right pain in the arse in the stable BUT the best horse to ride I have ever had, safe and able and fun. I love him to death.

I advertised my horse for short term share whilst I was recovering from a broken collar bone, I think it was for 3mths and had quite a bit of interest. Unfortunately due to my horse not being an easy ride no one seemed suitable so I just got back on myself after 3wks :)

Another vote for advertising for a 6 month sharer :)

If I hadn't got a horse to ride in the meantime something like that would be perfect for someone like me who has their own horse but not ready for backing yet and wants to keep their hand in so to speak

Good luck with finding someone :)
