Hey everyone,

I have been looking around for a horse that I can bring on and then eventually compete with .. and today I went to view some horses and came across a lovely 15hh black/dark bay 3and a half year old American Tb. I rode him today and he has a lovely temperment not silly or anything. He has learnt to walk trot and canter but still green so needs bringing on as he hasnt really done much.

The other thing is .. is that hes on a dealers yard .. and the dealer has only been a dealer since the end of January. The horse is for sale for £1200 but they are willing to take an offer.

The man is selling the horse on behalf of a client, and the client has financial problems and needs the horse sold by Thursday .. and if hes not sold then shes going to take him to the sales, but the man has said that if we want him then he may buy the horse himself from her and then do it that way.

He has said that if the horse doesnt turn out to be what he is .. and if he has any problems .. then he will have him back and let us try a different one out .. and he said that he will put it all in writing in a contract etc. He said that I can have it vetted etc and hes all current with vaccinations .. worming and is microchipped and is passported which I saw the passport.

Now what shall I do? Give it a miss or shall I go back and have it vetted or what? My instructor hasnt seen the horse .. and she said that she wouldnt go for it .. just because she doesnt know the dealer personally. Im not quite sure on what to do?

Helpp please. I won't mind you saying no dont do it etc.

Thank you in advance!!

Well everybodies got to start somewhere havnt they, just because they have only recently started out doesnt automatically make them bad. If you like him & are prepared to get him vetted i see no reason not to go for it.

I would just be worries about rushing any decision, especially with such a youngster. It's a buyers market out there, and there is plenty of stock. Maybe list out what exactly it is that you were looking for and see how many boxes are ticked. Ask yourself why the dealer is in such a rush if he's willing to take on the horse himself? Will he let you have the horse on a short trial so your trainer can see you both in action over a couple of weeks. Personally I think 3 is a bit young unless you really wanted a horse with very little done, and you have the experience and knowledge to slowly bring him on, turn him away and then bring him back in next year.

i think he sounds quite genuine in saying he will buy the horse if you have not made your mind up by thurday and also saying if he is not right you can try another horse out and he can go back, i would see what your intructer says first,xx
