another 2.5wks at least. I'm then going to take him for a repeat scan. If healing is good I'll take him home and start restricted turnout. If not, he'll go back for a bit more box rest. If the weather doesn't dry up he'll have to stay there though as I'm not risking turning him out on slippery ground - he is a loon in the field at the best of times. Off there now
If you want scan done there my vet is going to do roo's shockwave?
Fingers crossed healing looks good though! Yes agree re turnout, next step for me is working out where I take him when he leaves there!!!!
Have you worked out exactly when she gets scared of the needle.
Mine will see the vet, see the needle, but as soon as you pinch the skin (to put the needle in) she goes crazy. It might be worth working out when exactly she gets nervous and working on that specific bit? Who knows?
He's fine with the vet, can stroke/touch/pat him. Not sure he actually knows what a needle is, but as soon as you touch his skin with the tip of the needle he tries to run away, then as you try to stop him running away he gets more and more worked up! Difficult really to do anything about it as can't really practice the actual sticking needle in skin part, and until you try to do that, he will stand as long as you like without trying to run away!
Silly horse!!
Gonna take him back to Liphook for scan as his injury is in a really weird place and makes most sense for same vet to scan him again as it wasn't the easiest thing to find. Duly fed Roo polos this evening. He was a bit restless but to be expected I think. He scared the life out of Monty at one point by booting the stable wall - poor Monts leapt 3ft in the air! He's also managed to give himself a tiny cut on his nose by rubbing it on the stable door.
I have got 2 other horses who are both needle shy - total nightmare. One has to be doped with IV xylazine to get the nerve blocks in and the other the vet cant even touch without a seriously hefty dose of IV sedation. Strange horse lets me inject him no probs though!
Lol thanks star, will return the polo feeding favour tomorrow. Hoping roo settles a bit more, Marie did say he has been a bit 'alert' today but then he is a nosey beggar at the best of times! Hopefully will settle down after a few days in the routine!
He is unfortunately one that needs IV sedation to get a nerve block in, which pretty much negates the purpose of blocking in the first place :/
