Hmmm.... shouldnt the Queen really be setting a better example?

Just seen this on the bbc news website http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-13354575 - I really dont want to start an argument, but... (i hate it when people say that!)

I know its normal for her to wear a headscarf rather than hat, however, in this kind of thing, that has been specifically released rather than a pap photo - i really feel she ought to be setting a better example (if only to her grandchildren - who i am pleased to say are wearing hats) and wear a hat herself - I was quietly pleased the news story pointed this out.

However, I do have to say it is a rather lovely photo, nice to see the Queen smiling and looking relaxed - plus i really cant wait to go to the show on saturday!

PS. was suprised she's wearing short boots (without chaps)...

I don't think many young riders aspire to look like the Queen, so it could be argued that she is, by making hats fashionable!:D

Nice to see her back on board though, I thought from some other stories a while back that she had had to give up riding altogether so glad for her that this is not true.:)

I'm sure alan titchmarsh asked that question in the all the queens horses programme and her head groom (I think) said you'd be a very brave person to tell her to wear a hat.

Nice picture xx

i think its a fabulous pic :)
well done her at her age - lovely ponies too

re short boots - correct turn out for adult on M&M afaik ;)

suppose its just the protective side of me coming out (having watched a relatively young girl fall off without wearing her hat - because she though she looked cooler, and ending up quite poorly for a while) - just feel in this situation when they have actually released the photo, but like i said - it is a really lovely photo!

Its nice to now even the Royal ponies get fat! Its amazing when you think she's 85. I imagine its in no small part due to riding that she's got the strength and fitness to do what she does. I'm not a Royalist but I know she works hard.

That is a lovely photo. :)

I thought I'd read somewhere recently that she'd had to give up riding, but its nice to see she's still out and about!

Lovely horses/ponies as well.

We all have vices, the Queen is 85 and she has always ridden in a headscarf and why not--

Such a lovely picture.

It never crossed my mind what HM was or wasn't wearing her head. She looks wonderful.

I think as far as the public goes, it's well known that she doesn't wear a hat so doesn't make much difference. Agree she should maybe show a better example to her grandkids though. Although I imagine they're more influenced by somebody like Zara Phillips. Cool aunty or grandma? I know who I'd want to copy;)

She's the Queen she can wear what the hell she likes tbh.

At 85yrs young I'm not sure she's ripe for re education ;)

I do see the point about setting an example, but as has been said she has always worn a headscarf and it would be a brave person to tell her otherwise. I think its amazing she is still riding at 85 :D Re the short boots, chaps are a relatively new idea I think, as far as I am aware it always used to be either short boots or long top boots, until the really naff long rubber boots appeared on the scene.

Are you nuts - what is the point of wearing a hat at 85?

If you hit the deck you are going to be screwed anyway as minor falls end up being the end of the road.

Also you can bet that her horse wouldn't put a foot wrong.

Brilliant photo, the only time the queen ever looks genuinely happy is when she's riding.
At 85 i think it's marvelous she's out riding give her a break i could give a fig if she's got a hat on or not.

No hat... dodgy girth... have you noticed her wonky stirrups too... tee hee hee

Over all though a lovely pic... even the ponies are smiling :)

It is fastened properly, but the straps are hanging out as they are a bit short on a dressage girth - happens to me a lot, although have been slowly putting better loops on my girths!

Ok, so maybe I'm wrong then!

love the wearing a crown comment - do you think they make ermine riding jackets too?

Lovely photo, hopefully I'll still be riding at 85!!

Crown comment lol :D

Also I think at 85 theres as much danger from hitting say her hip or something as there is hitting her head.. Anyway I'm not going to be the one to tell her :p hehe
