hmmm...

if you were to buy a new GP saddle and had a choice of cantle shape... what would you choose and why?

round?

square?

round prob would give a deeper seat, square cantle is usually lower than a round one, and safer for xc imho. i think you'd have to sit in both and see which felt better for your bum!
in my experience lots of foam padding makes more difference to comfort than shape of cantle!

Square cantles actually give you about 1/4 inch extra room in the seat. Also for the bigger jumps a square cantle is needed as it won't hit you in the back like a round cantle will.

I personally prefer square cantles but have a round cantle on my dressage saddle.

hmmm... but kerilli... i can't sit in each one if i'm going to make a rash ebay purchase...

*makes mental note to avoid eBay until saddle buying is complete*

hmm.... i wonder if i should wait until my bum has shrunk to it's normal size before buying a saddle... (gah, i'm just looking for excuses not to get back on board...)

humpf.

Hi - Just done this one. Always had a saddle with a round cantle and just bought a new one from Dave and Ann Saddle Company (would highly recommend, nothing is too much trouble) with a square cantle. It is brilliant and still makes me feel really secure but with just a bit more room for my ample rump. I think the technical thinking behind (scuse the pun) a square cantle is so that when you are jumping your seat can slide back easier than it can with a round cantle. It looks great too

I've got saddle with both, my Ideal Grandee has a square cantle and I loves it more than most things in life (horse and chocolate excluded obviously!), my GFS jumping saddle has a round cantle and it's brill too, I think I'll always veer towards the Grandee between those two though!
