Remember my happy mouth bit saga?

(bit split after 2 uses & saddlery sent it to manufacturer & refused to give replaccement so I complained)

Well thought it was sorted but just had a letter forwarded from the manufacturer(via saddlery) saying that my horses teeth are to blame!

Bit was used for 2 x 30 minutes. I was so worried about his teeth after this I had them checked again & vet confirmed there was nothing that would have damaged a bit

Do you think I should drop it as I'm not out of pocket?

Extremely miffed that they are blaming ponies teeth as a poor excuse

Am afraid if it was me I would send letter or e mail to saying that after reciving the letter I had my horses teeth checked by vet and they were fine, and would not be using the company again nor recomend them due to the bad customer service.

Personally i would say this is a manufactures fault and perhaps seek expert advice - what would have happend had said bit broken in horses mouth whilst you were jumping or cantering?
A serious accident could have happend.....if vet is prepared to state that there was no problem with horses teeth. How do the manufactures know it was your horses teeth? where they there?
Im affraid horses do chew bits to some extent! and if said bit cannot withstand this from two 30 min sessions then there must be a weakness in the BIT.

get you dentician (vet) to see the letter and maybe he or she could sign something to say it is not deemed that his teeth could have done this - teeth where last done on the ....... etc

do not drop it if they had cared in the slightest like most manufactuers claim to do then they would have happily sorted the matter out instead of being so offhand! If you do not take the matter a step further than you never know it may haoppen to someone again with serious consequences! Taje it to watchdog!

I have my original 15 year old happy mouth fulmer, yes its got a couple of teeth marks on it but nothing major to render it unuseable. I recently purchased a new one but it did seem to be made from a much thinner "plastic", and after using it for the 1st time, literally for 1/2 hour, it split by the joint. I took both bits back to the saddlery I got the new one from (just hoping to prove that my horse wasn't a bit wrecker by showing them the old one) the following day. The shop owner said it was my horse and not the bit at fault, refused to give me a refund but did return it to Shires who had no quibble about refunding me at all.
Hope this may help!

Thanks guys just checking I wasn't being pedantic

I will write to them objecting and see what they say. Most dissapointing from a manufacturer I am quite fond of

Sounds exactly the same but different manufacturer. How annoying

I don't think it's legal under the Sale of Goods Act for a shop to refuse to give you a refund if a prduct is faulty.

Slightly different, but my fridge freezer died after 6months and a very well known electrical retailer tried to wriggle out of refunding me.

Phoned Consumer Direct - they gave me all legal info and the retailer very quickly back tracked

Oh! never noticed the previous posts on split happy mouths. My young mare managed to kill one in 20 minutes and I was told it was her teeth. She's since been to the dentist and there is NOTHING wrong with her teeth. Unfortunately I threw the bit out and gave up on getting a refund - or on using Happy Mouth in future.

I would keep onto them too if you don't mind taking the time to do this. I know what you mean about liking the brand.. I've just sent Jeffries back a pair of rubber reins that disintegrated in my hands when I got caught in a downpour

good luck with this Nic

It is illegal so I emailed their HO & got lots of apologies but despite HO admitting they were wrong, the manager of the branch refused to apologise. However I had a replacement & that was fine. But I feel like this letter today is adding insult to injury and am not prepared to have someone lay the blame with me when there is nothing wrong with ponies teeth

Interesting, a pattern seems to be emerging.
