OUR 6 YR OLD POINTER GOES WELL FOR 2.5 MILES THEN JUST HITS A WALL. 2 JOCKEYS HAVE BOTH REPORTED THAT HIS BREATHING JUST GOES ALL AT ONCE. OUR VET HAS SCOPED HIM AND RECOMMENDED A HOBDAY DUE TO LEFT LARYNGEAL PARALYSIS. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE OF THIS, AND DID IT IMPROVE PERFORMANCE. I DONT WANT HIM TO HAVE SURGERY UNNECESSARILY.

A lot of racehorses have wind ops at some time in their careers, either the hobday or tie back, it should make a difference to his performance and is a fairly straightforward procedure.

A tie back and a hobday are both used to fix the issue.
To get the best prognosis the two operations can be preformed together. Both can be preformed separately however and a hobday is cheaper.
A hobday will stop the noise but has lower success rates than a tieback.
Neither would be unnecessary operations as they both offer a good chance of improvement over his current situation.
