For those who have read my earlier post about my mare being kicked in the hock resulting in an emergency operation and a week at an equine hospital. My mare is progressing really well and I have started with the next phase of her rehab which is walking in hand for a month, then riding/walking for a month and so on. I have been given the go ahead by the vet to let her out on limited turnout in 2 weeks time (yay!!!). I have decided to order a hock boot for the affected joint to protect it for when she rolls or in case she is silly and slips. I don't need the magnetic boot as that is for tied up or stabled horses. I was trying to decide (after much googling of various boots) whether to just buy the neoprene boot so it provides support and protection (cheaper option and you get a pair) or the Back on Track hock boot (more expensive and you only get one). I have gone with the Back on Track boot as it has infrared properties so there can be healing as well as support and protection. Sorry, long story to ask one question - does any have any experience with Back on Track hock boots?

Back on Track hock boots are great, but I’ve only used mine in the stable. I’ve got the ones with the neoprene outer and the Back on Track inner. I don’t think they’d stay up during exercise or turnout.
Tiddlypom, the one I am looking at are one piece with hole for the ‘pointy’ bit (sorry too lazy to look up the correct term). It is called a Equine hock boot. I think you are thinking of the Equine hock boot royal - this one is recommended only for rest periods

How about a Pressage hock boot which zip up? Many moons ago I hired one from the vets practice for my horse and it was excellent. It looks like they're still available.

Northern Hare, I had this for the first part of my mare’s rehab when she was bandaged up after her op. The one I have, has no padding in it, just the two ‘knobs’ for holding up. I had a dressing and rolled cotton wool under it. Not really suitable for turnout

We have the Back on track hock boots (w.o lining, the ones with a hole for hock movement) we use them for 1-2 hours before any training, transport etc. I don't think they'd be good for turnout. They have to fit snugly to have any effect and long use would put pressure on the soft tendon above the hock point.

If the vet said its ok to turnout and any sutures and bandages are no longer in situ why worry about it? I would have thought being out and about would help with any swelling and a boot over that would restrict movement. My horse has a hock field injury 18 months ago and I went through a similar rehab program. he has very restriced turnout and I did invest in the ice vibe hock boots while he was on box rest and before and after excessive to help move any fluid.
