Had a horse treated for a septic joint (hock) with a flush under general anaesthetic. Unfortunately, this didn’t work and a second flush was done and standing sedation 48 hours later. This was done on the 12th of December. She stayed in the hospital for another week and has been home with me since then revisiting the vets once a week for a checkup.
The hock is still very swollen. She is very happy to take full weight on it and is walking sound but is still lame in trot. Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be down to the large amount of swelling in her hock and general stiffness. She has been hand walked up until yesterday when she was allowed to turn out in a tiny pen. She was definitely more sore having been out all day, although she was jumping around quite a lot having been shut in for over three weeks. Fortunately, I have never experienced this type of injury before so unsure of how long the swelling or lameness would take to go back down. She is due back to the vets next week for another checkup.
