Hock injection aftercare

Anyone know the current advice post hock injections?
No lameness currently just performance issues, having both done with steroids to see if helps ( if so will do X-rays and possibly arthramid at a later stage )
Booked in with vet on very crackly phone line so couldn’t discuss aftercare! Obviously I will on the day but just planning when I can put an entry in for a competition
Have seen online 24 hours in then a few days rest then crack on ?

24-48 hours box rest. A couple of days walk hacking then start up.
Allow WD period before competition

When I got them it was 24hours box rest, then turnout as normal and walk for a few days then start to work normally if the horse is good with it.

Seems to be a huge range of advice

Mine was 48hrs on box rest followed by 5 days in a pen in the field then back into work.

Every vet has their own protocol, even within the same practice.

For example 4 horses on my yard block have had arthramid, every single one was given different after care advice and intro to work.

Arthrimed advise is to treat during a quiet period and bring back into work slowly.

Steroids have a shorter recovery period than Arthramid.
From memory overnight in stabling on the day of injections.then back into work within a few days.

If horse looks stiff or lame a few days after get the vet back out ASAP

I think each Vet gives different advice. My Vet said 24 hours box rest and then one week off followed by building him back back up slowly.

Thanks all , interesting so much variation !
Will hope for 24 hrs box rest , few days off , then few days walk hacks . Fingers crossed that’s what is suggested !
He is currently fit and in full work .

Bandages removed the next morning then 48h in with short hand walk/grazing day 1 and slightly more day 2 - then walking under saddle for a couple more days.

My vet is always keen to avoid complete box rest for their overall health and recommends a bit of grazing if possible - temperament helps as kite flying isn’t any good for anyone!

My rather old fashioned and pragmatic vet said just to turn out once the sedative wore off. Better to start walking around as soon as possible. Then a few days walk work in mostly straight lines, then back to normal. I have followed this for the last 2 horses I have had injected (going back about 8 years) and didn't ever have a problem.

It varies some want longer box rest because of a laminitis risk or at least reduced turnout, but on the other hand it does them good to move around so I think it depends on the horse really.

Sure, I realise it’s not the same as other vets say. This is just mine.

My vet also suggests this as long as its dry. He said it was the risk of the infection rather than anything else and the stabling is to keep as clean as possible.

Not true for my horse. It is to stop him running about. Vets have told me the risk of laminitis is so low they don't worry about it

One pf my liveries just had hock injections, they had to stay in 48 hours then go out as normal.

Not true for my horse. It is to stop him running about. Vets have told me the risk of laminitis is so low they don't worry about it

My vets insisted on a blood test and refused to do steroids as a result as they were in a “grey” area.

Arthrimed, 8-10 hours of bandage, 48 hours box rest and bring slowly back into work.
